Artwork from Keeper Jonas
- 3:52:56 PM - Elenkis
Apologies to those who have submitted fanworks and not seen them on the site yet; as you might have noticed I was away again for the past couple of months (mostly overseas with no internet access), so any submissions we received during that time are only now getting added.

Without further ado here is a new piece artwork named "Saturday Night's All Right For A Fight" which was drawn and sent to us by Keeper Jonas:

Thanks Jonas!

Press Release of Thief: Deadly Shadows
- 1:51:30 PM - Dan
Oh good, some more official news is coming in. Here's a clip of the good part:
In Thief: Deadly Shadows, gamers will be able to play in either third person or first person perspectives, and shift seamlessly between each on the fly. The new third person perspective will further immerse players into the role of Garret -- the master Thief.
That's it. Aside from the title, that's what the press release wanted to say. Well this clears things up for all of us who were wondering. Weather you were rooting for one or the other, now you have confirmation.

If I will be permitted to comment on the matter... some games (A) are 3rd person and allow a 1st person mode, and the 1st person mode stinks; it's worthless. Some games (B) are 1st person and they allow a 3rd person mode, and it stinks; it's worthless. Still, there are others (C) that are good at both... and some situations in the game are better handled from the 3rd person, and some that are better handled from the 1st person. Overall, it's a nice option to give the player. How do you want to see the world? Options are not a bad thing.

We don't know what type of game Thief 3 will be (case A, B, or C). Am I still allowed to call it Thief 3? Good, I thought so.

Here's one guy who's waiting and seeing. :)

Thanks, Captainclone. Additonally, Blues news has three new screenshots showing off the 3rd person mode. Click here. Garrett's blackjack still looks like a mini baseball bat to me. Maybe that's how it's supposed to look? The compass on the light gem was a nice touch.

Fan Mission News
- 5:49:08 AM - Dan
We've got a great big load of Fan Missions today. Lucky I was able to find time to do an update! You FM authors are relentless. That's a good thing. :)

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Betrayal: Voices

 Filesize: 6.4 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: amievil?

Plot Description: Almost two years agone, Garrett took me in as a student to his ways. For two years, i've worked hard to be the best that I could possibly be for Garrett, and for myself. And then the voices started. I hear them constantly, they call to me of the fall of Empires and the torturing of men's souls. There is one voice that I Simply cannot get away from. It stays with me constantly. Two weeks ago, the voice began it's maddening demands to kill. It demands me to kill the one person who ever cared about me. It demands I kill Garrett. I can't make it stop, I try but it just won't go away... And so tonight, I'm going to do what countless guards, Mechanists, undead, Hammerites, Thieves, and the Trickster himself failed to do: Tonight I'm going to kill Garrett. But I don't want to be known as the one that brought the bitter end, so I'm going to kill everyone else here, too. Perhaps I am consciencly insane, time will tell.

Additional Comments: Part 3 in a series begun with Hell's Motel 1 & 2.

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Just Take a Look

 Filesize: 3.8 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: Don

Plot Description: It's the night after you were the life of the party at AngelWatch, and you've decided to visit one of Karras' honoured guest's homes to see why he's given them these servants. Try to pick up a clue, and of course, a few things for your troubles.....

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Retrieval of the Soul

 Filesize: 7.6 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: Istvan Varga

Plot Description: My first attempt at level editing, a simple mansion mission where you need to steal 'The Mystic's Soul', which - after taking from the 'Bonehoard' and selling it - is now in a nobleman's collection of valuable antiquities. The story takes place between the events of Thief 1 and Thief 2; at this time the Mechanists were not widely known yet, although some of their earlier inventions - such as simple security devices - were already in use by a few nobles who could afford buying them. This job should be an useful training for a similar quest later in time, stealing the Lost City treasures from Bram Gervaisius' larger and well guarded mansion...(more)

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Deep Trouble

 Filesize: 5.4 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: John D. Head

Plot Description: Garrett has been collaborating with his old friend Brenner about robbing the castle of a local Count. Security is tight on the outside but Brenner had an idea. A contact of his at the local docks told him about a large shipment of fine wines and foodstuffs which were being shipped to his large and unguarded cellar from there later that night. The plan was for Garrett to sneak into the docks and hide in one of the larger crates in order to get a free ride into the Count's estate. Once inside, Garrett would clean the place out and make his escape-which would be made easier by the fact that the guards wouldnt be expecting a break-in from the inside. A couple of hours later, after a unusually rough ride and overhearing what sounds like Mechanist voices (perhaps wiring up some Watchers for the Count?-Garrett wonders) he makes a cautious exit from the crate...............only to find out he's not in the Count's basement! He's somewhere else, and if he doesnt find a way out , he may be in DEEP TROUBLE!

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Garrett and the Beanstalk

 Filesize: 3.1 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: Kfort

Plot Description: Due a dramatic rise in crime, helped in no small part by the contributions of a certain master thief, the Bluecoats and Hammerites of the City were in an uproar. Between the increased patrols, nightly curfews, and frequent raids, it was becoming quite unhealthy to be a thief, even a very uncommon one. Until the authorities settle down, Garrett decided to spend some time in his "summer cottage" - a small hut on the edge of Blackwood Forest, well outside of the City. At first the quiet and simplicity of forest were relaxing. But within a week, Garrett was restless for the action and thrills of the City...(more)

Thief 2 Fan Mission
The Cathedral

 Filesize: 0.4 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.txt

By: Meshpit

Plot Description: you have noticed a hole in the hammerite cathedral basement where you will make your entrence, and you have a unkown fence that pays you good for an assasination on thier priest Fretch, and he want the hammer trickster book, assasinate Fretch and steal the book, and ofcourse pick up someting for yourself.

Additional Comments: This mission is very small, just 10min fun.(objectives are listed in the papyrus you got in your inventory)

Thief 2 Fan Mission
A Thief's Holiday (v1.1)

 Filesize: 7.4 MB
 Released: 1/4/2004
 readme.rtf

By: Yandros

Plot Description: This mission is a simple virtual holiday retreat for weary taffers looking for a comfortable, nostalgic environment for the holidays. A cozy fire, good books, a well-stocked kitchen, gentle snow falling outside, and holiday music on the stereo...

And because the perfectionist in me couldn't simply release an "ambient" mission, there is also one objective: Find a way to end the mission. There are actually seven ways to end the mission, although one is only available on Expert. The difficulty levels determine how well hidden the objects required to achieve mission's end are.

There's also some FM Updates worth note.

Thief 2 Fan Mission
The Skull of St. Yora (v1.1)

 Filesize: 2.8 MB
 Released: 6/26/2003
 readme.txt

By: Zaccheus (Richard C. Lafferty)

Plot Description: The restored cathedral adventure continues ... in the metal age!

"Times have changed. The Mechanists have taken over the old hammerite Cathedral and have sold off the land on which the old cloister once stood. Merchants and other traders have moved into the area and built houses, shops and pubs. I have received a strange note asking me to meet a contact at the nearby Lion's Inn; sounds like someone has a job for me ..."

Thief 2 Fan Mission
Melian's Method (v1.2)

 Filesize: 1.4 MB
 Released: 2/27/2002
 readme.txt

By: James "Jimmy" Desiderio

Plot Description: It seems that there is a new thief organization called "The Dragon's Tail" that has been gaining quite a bit of a reputation lately for being ruthless and unrelenting to their competitors. The Keepers think that the organization is involved with illegal smuggling, gambling and other incidents and are giving The Keepers and myself a bad name. They want me to break into the one of their lackey's residences and get some information on them and return back. ...(more)

Additional Comments: Small fan mission contest entry.

Thanks again to the FM Authors for their continued work!
