Yandros' Hammerite Deathmatch Released
- 11/18/2007 - pavlovscat       Link to this
New Mission
November 18, 2007 - Hammerite Deathmatch for T2 by Yandros

The Mission: Your mission is straight forward. Kill them before they can kill you.

Impressions: Yandros has managed to make fun out of something many Thief players just don't like - wholesale slaughter. If you don't think you'll like this mission because you are required to kill or be killed, give it a try anyway. That is exactly what I thought, but I was pleasantly suprised. It's really a lot of fun!

Yandros has included some great weaponry. Just trying out all the new weapons was worth playing. The concept is a simple one, yet pleasure can be found in Yandros' execution (no pun intended!) of the idea. The counter feature was very useful. You even get to pick your music. I found "What Is Love?" to be an ironic music choice but suitable.

Problems: I found no problems at all with the mission.

Hammerite Contest Canceled
- 11/8/2007 - Dan       Link to this
The Hammerite Contest begun several months ago by Yandros is in peril. Dromed artists who are not afraid to make a quick and simple mission are needed. See below:
The due date is coming up on Sunday, and here's the current status as I know it:

  • Otto is about done.
  • No one else I know of is ready to submit an entry.
  • The_Dude and redleaf have missions in the works and could probably complete them if I give a huge extension - like to the end of January.

Three missions would be small, but still a contest. What I really want to know NOW is this:

Is there anyone else out there who started a mission but quit because of the November deadline, and who also feels pretty confident they could finish the mission if given 10-12 more weeks (until late January) to complete it?

If a few others say they could hit that date, I'll consider doing it and making this an actual contest again. Hell, someone with a fair amount of free time could start a (small) mission NOW and finish it in 10 weeks!

    What say you?

  • If you ever wanted to try to make an FM in 10-12 weeks, now's your chance!

Update: Sadly, the Hammerite contest has been canceled.

    Yandros's Hammerite Pack for T2
    - 3/25/2007 - Dan       Link to this
Fan Mission Authors should be interested to note that Yandros is creating a Hammerite Mission Development Kit (HMDK). In addition to porting Thief 1 Hammerite content into Thief 2, it features a wide variety of totally new meshes and skins, featuring priests, novices, crossbowmen, women, haunts, and even bots. In the future, this project will also feature new voice sets, Hammerite related props, and textures. Thanks for all your work, Yandros!

    Hammerite Imperium Dev Blog
    - 1/11/2005 - Dan       Link to this
The ambitious FM Campaign project, The Hammerite Imperium, has been gifted with a web-blog created by one of its designers. The blog can be found here, and in the words of its author,
It is an attempt to filter the rather bloated and difficult to navigate Imperium website down to its purest essence, to give Thief fans the information they want as simply and easily as possible. As it will feature content (pictures, music, art and writing) from the Imperium mission pack, and will be regularly updated, we think it will be of interest to the Thief community.
Thank you Macsen, and may many a traveler pass through your blog. :)

    A Report on Hammerite Imperium
    - 4/17/2003 - Dan       Link to this
I was sent this by the Ibsen's Ghost, one of the leaders (if not the leader) of the Hammerite Imperium campaign project. Here's the scoop:
Keen Thief fans will no doubt be aware that the 1st Cosas mission was released recently to great excitement. To make people aware that, once Cosas is released and played, we still have not one major fan campaign (Thief2x) but two (The Hammerite Imperium) to look forward to, I am just writing to inform the community that the latter is still looking out for major level designing talent and concept artists who have a good knowledge of the possibilities that Dromed is capable of and a desire to push them still further with ground-breaking new ideas.

As the Hammerite Imperium will be one of the most ambitious projects yet, we are particularly on the lookout for technical innovators who can push those boundaries and make even our more outlandish ideas manifested in the game. This is why the exceptional quality of such activities as Komag’s fan mission contests has duly attracted our attention. We want to see what you can do to take Thief on to better and better standards. Our aim is nothing less than to attract the attention of Ion Storm for an officially recognised prequel.

Besides recent progress made on the plot and mission-by-mission structure, the campaign already boasts a full new range of models from the Hammer, Precursor and Metal Orders to name but a few, a storyline drawing from not only a creation myth but thousands of years of Hammerite history, new sounds and creatures (including birds and fish) and much much more besides the impressive website produced by our leader, Alexius – www.hammerempire.cjb.net

It also deals with the origins of such characters as Constantine and Victoria, staying true to the spirit of the original Thief game and taking the whole Thief universe into a new dimension. The theme of Imperium is clearly more focused on the Hammerite religion and chronicles its downfall. The scope is therefore very wide and brings in a more expansive sort of ‘Lord of the Rings’ setting with a nod towards the Arthurian inspiration of the original game. Its hero travels through major points in a disastrous period of history for the empire before the birth of Garrett. This project is presently written for up to a total of 10 missions with all central concepts being worked through for the main story arc, and looks set to cleverly assimilate much of Hammerite lore in a seamless fashion, whilst expanding greatly on the existing ideas. This is not to say, however, that your individual contribution will not be welcomed as we need very talented craftsmen to work within some guidelines on the mission design. These missions do permit a certain amount of individual flair mainly due to the densely populated world that is being created.

We are hoping to make the gameplay of the Hammerite Imperium a little different as well, allowing the player to make choices and permit a bit more interactivity. This may make the player to do a bit more thinking than usual instead of simple exploration. Ideally, then, we are looking for a team of people to work on single fan missions with people specialising in architecture, special effects and the general look and feel of the mission. This is because the main character will be moving around a lot in the Thief world and each location will be quite different than the next. So come on, Thief community, let’s show Ion Storm what we’re made of!

Above all, this is a project made by fans for fans and one of the most valuable qualities you can have is a passion for Thief. All those interested in the challenge should contact either Alexius at doctor_vit@hotmail.com or myself, Ibsen’s Ghost (aka the voice of Skarz in Cosas), at Ibsen3@msn.com .

High hopes indeed. Good luck, guys! I know from experience that you'll need it. :)

    Review: Hedgerows & Hammerites
    - 4/1/2003 - Elenkis       Link to this
Morrgan's second review is of Gumdrop's small Thief 2 fan mission, Hedgerows & Hammerites. She gives the mission a final score of 6.5 hammers!

    Hammer Score: 6.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Solid architecture in all areas; several interesting puzzles.
  • Cons: Not much of a story; the interesting puzzles can turn out to be frustrating.
  • Bottom Line: A well-made but small mission, worth the download. If you like puzzles, this is something for you.

  • Thanks again Morrgan!

Vote for the Hammerite Haunt at the Best Monster!!
    - 10/16/1999 - Dan       Link to this
I should have noticed this before: Gamespot is doing a top 10 monsters thing, and the Hammerite Haunt from Thief NEEDS to be on the list! If we all vote for the haunt, then it stands a chance of placing. Come on and vote!

    Go Vote!!
